Winter Day and Night in DC Area

I know my fellow "New Englanders" have been dealing with this for a couple months, but we finally got some wintry mix in DC area today. Woke up to snow, and now tonight it's a little bit of everything.. sleet, freezing rain, and all rain! This photo was taken this morning in Rosslyn, VA.

Downtown the Saturday before the Inauguration

Three days before one to two million people will make there way down to the Mall and U.S. Capitol for the historic Inauguration of Barack Obama, I ventured down in the bitter cold to "take in" the last minute set up and I was at Union Station when President Elect Obama arrived after taking a train from Philadelphia. The third shot is the Obama motorcade (being escorted by DC Police) going by, the forth shot is the crowd waiting for Obama to emerge (but they were at the wrong intersection) from Union Station.

Pre-Sunrise & Sunrise on Cold Friday Morning

I ventured out before work this morning to get some pre-sunrise and sunrise pictures along the Potomac River. I started in Georgetown, but prior to the sun rising moved to Arlington, mainly because I need to warm up my gloveless hands. Next pre-sunrise and sunrise shoot, I will be better dressed!

National Park Seminary in Forest Glen, Maryland

On New Year's Day I took trip to the former campus of the National Park Seminary (also know later as National Park College) located in Forest Glen, Maryland. From 1894 to 1942 it was a private girls "finishing school" located next to Rock Creek Park. From 1942 to 1970 the US Army owned the property, using it in World War II medical needs for returning soldiers. Now after years of neglect and people trying to save the historic campus and buildings, it's being preserved and being turned into townhouse community. One of the most famous buildings is the top picture of a Japanese Pagoda. There apparently is a English Castle too, but I missed that. As you can tell, there are a lot of cool statues too. I have few more building pictures which I will post tomorrow.
