Green Day @ Verizon Center

This is not my photo (wish it was) but it is from earlier this weeks Green Day concert at Verizon Center in DC. I went with my brother and my niece and nephew. They put on an amazing show, with 28 songs of old and new stuff. My favorite part (and some reviewers least favorite part) was when Billie Joe Armstrong (above) brought fans onto the stage to sing or play the guitar. The Washington Post reviewer on Friday called it very "American Idolish" , I guess that's why I am also still a fan of that show. Giving the everyday guy and girl a few minutes of glory!

Congressional Cemetery # 1

Earlier this week I visited historic Congressional Cemetery in Southeast Washington D.C. There are 19 Senators and 71 Representatives interred at Congressional Cemetery and monuments to honor 120 other members of congress who died in office.

This was the most famous grave I saw in my hour or so at Congressional Cemetery.

26 Hours in NYC- Part 2

On Sunday, I headed uptown to Columbus Circle and Central Park. The weather was "picture perfect" with artists and musicians out in Central Park.



Near Central Park on 60th Street between 5th Avenue and Lexington Avenue, they were celebrating Bastille Day a couple days early. I had a ham and cheese crepe for lunch (i wish I went with my first choice Chocolate and Strawberries).

26 Hours in NYC- Part 1

I met up with a friend in New York City this weekend. Spent 26 hours eating, drinking, and taking in a few sights.. These two photo's are from an overlook on 10th Avenue part of the new "High Line" which is a city park that open in mid June in the Meatpacking District. It's a elevated walkway, next to old train tracks that use to be part of an elevated train line in the 1930's.

Check out the bee on the sun flower part of the plants growing along the High Line.

The High Line have lounge benches where people can take it easy, as this couple was doing on Saturday afternoon.

Outer Banks: The Lost Colony

My last blog from my four day weekend to the Outer Banks. My friend and I went to Roanoke Island to watch the outdoor drama about "The Lost Colony."

What's the Lost Colony? Here the explainer courtesy of wikipeada.com: Between 1585 and 1587, several groups attempted to establish a colony, but either abandoned the settlement or disappeared. The final group of colonists disappeared after three years elapsed without supplies from the Kingdom of England during the Anglo-Spanish War, leading to the continuing mystery known as "The Lost Colony". One possible explanation is that they were assimilated into the local indigenous tribes.

The show has been being performed since 1937. North Carolina native Andy Griffith reformed a few summers in this show in the early 40's.

Outer Banks: 12 sesonds that made history

On Saturday, before the beach and fireworks, my friend and I took in some history at the site of the first flight by the Wright Brothers.

It lasted only 12 seconds (the first flight) and covered only 120 feet, but it was historic. Visitors can walk the distance of the four flights (three more were made that day) in Kill Devil Hills.
