Spotlight: National Building Museum

Today I am starting new feature here on the blog entitled Spotlight. I will focus on one building both inside and outside.

The first spotlight is my favorite museum in DC, the National Building Museum. Inside, the "Great Hall" has held many big events since the late 1800's. Most recently, it was the site for President Obama "Commander in Chief's Inaugural Ball."

Abe Pollin Remebered: Saturday Night

On Tuesday, Washington Wizards owener Abe Pollin died. Saturday Night, I went with a couple of friends to see a movie at Gallery Place next to the Verizon Center one of Abe Pollins biggest legacies to the city of Washington. When I moved to DC more than 15 years ago, the Verizon Center didn't exist, and that area was one you didn't want to visit. This week, one politican described the area around the Verizon Center as DC's Times Square.

Blog Post # 200: Early Thanksgiving Day Parade

I think it's fitting that blog post # 200 is a parade. When I was a kid I always loved going to my town's Memorial Day parade, but as an adult if your not at a parade for a purpose (like taking photographs) they can be a little boring. This was my second Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade which takes place two blocks from my apartment. This year the temperature was much warmer than last year!

Washington National Nyger Morgan signed a number of autographs for the kids and couple of adult fans.

What's the law about texting while driving in a parade in Montgomery County?

The always popular Santa Claus telling us that even though we haven't even finished Thanksgiving, the next big holiday is right around the corner.

Santa elf looked a little lost...

70 plus degrees in mid-November???

The weather was great this Sunday, and it definitely didn't feel like mid-November. I spent another Sunday downtown D.C.

To cold for ice skating rink at the National Gallery of Art's Sculpture Garden.

Twlight at the memorials

I attended a going away party for a couple of friends downtown, so I was able sneak out in enough of time to head to the memorials around sunset.

All flags are half-staff in memory of Thursdays tragedy at Fort Hood, Texas

I haven't been to the Vietnam Wall in while. This guy was reading a "Welcome Home" sign on the ground in front of the ten's of thousand names on the wall.

Capitol with some color

Stopped by Capitol Tuesday Night on my way home from work, and was treated to this light show via this fountain near the dome.
