Weekend in Philadelphia

Spent the weekend in Philly, attending Saturday Night my friend Akos party celebrating his photographs which are on display at "La Colombe" on Main Street in Manayunk in Philadelphia. It was a rainy Saturday Night, but I was able to get a cool shot (first picture) outside the cafe during the party. Also watched at a bar the Phillies win Game 3 of the World Series in a game that ended at little before 2 am Sunday morning.

Jason Mraz in Concert

Started the week off right, by seeing a really great concert at DAR Constitution Hall Monday Night.. I saw Virginia's own, Jason Mraz. For those of you who know him, he is a very unique, edgy, guitarist/singer whoses songs are very wordy & folkish. His current hit on the radio is "I'm yours" and he broke onto the scene a few years ago with the hit song "The Remedy." Mraz got the crowd into his show, and it was one of the best concerts I have seen in long time!

Shutter Speed Class

Last night my Digital Photography class took a field trip downtown to practice with shutter speed. These are my two favorite pictures that I took from the night. They're meant to be blurry, the top picture (I actually took after class on the way back to my car) is shot from the WWII Memorial looking down at the Lincoln Memorial with a plane going overhead (that' the white lines) and the second picture is of traffic on Constitution Avenue after a tour bus went by (note the two red lines).

Blog Post # 100

Had this Columbus Day off... and in the honor of the 100th blog posting, I decided to hit the road in search of fall foliage. I ended up about 95 miles away in the small town of Berkeley Springs, West Virgina. Berkeley Springs claim to fame is home of the country's first spa. George Washington use to visit here (when it known as Bath) to take in the water which flows from a nearby spring and is always at a constant 74 degrees (according to local web site). On the way back, I stopped at Charles Town WV Races and Slots. And I am happy to say, just like today's stock market, I left on the plus side!

Silver Spring Sunday

The calender says it's October 12th, but walking around Silver Spring this afternoon it felt like late May or early June. Temperatures reached the upper 70's and not a cloud in the sky. The top picture is of the Discovery Building (Discovery cable channels) image on another glass building. Another image in glass of a guy sitting on Colesville Road across the street from the Silver Spring Metro Station. And the cool mural is on a building on the way to and from the metro station!

"Altar Boyz" comes to Bethesda

So I've been wanting to see Altar Boyz in New York since it opened in 2004. Well, I happy to report the show came to me, now playing off-off-off Broadway in Bethesda, Maryland. I saw the show tonight, and it was very entertaining. Its musical about five guys (Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan, and Abraham) who are members of a Christian rock band and they are trying to save the audience's soul via song. And God (or least the voice of God) is played (via tape) by Dan Rather. I recommend the show, whether you see it in New York, Bethesda, or a city near you!

The Great Zucchini & My Niece's 5th Birthday!

Yesterday was my niece's (Katherine) 5th birthday. And just like her brother Zach had for his 5th birthday, the entertainment was provided by "The Great Zucchini" who is huge among kids under 10 years old in Washington DC area. He was profiled two years ago in the Washington Post http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/01/18/AR2006011801434.html He did not let his young audience down, providing a fun show and making it a memorable night for Katherine, her family and friends!
